Why Revival?
In our Sandy Run Association Ministers Conference there has been constant talk in recent days, concerning the need for revival. People are preaching on revival. Various articles are being written on revival. But some may ask, "Why all the attention to the subject of revival?" Because it may very well be our only hope in this country. The signs of the times are clear. Three simple signs tell us why we need a revival, a great moving of God, something that gets out of the control of man and under the control of God. Something that is much more than a series of meetings that change little or nothing. We need a supernatural, heaven sent, Holy Ghost, sin killing, Devil defying, life changing move of God in our churches! Something that brings lasting change.
(1) We need revival because of the coldness of our churches. True, every church may not be filled with cold hearted believers every Sunday. But churches across this country that used to be on fire for God, with souls being saved and people coming in excited about serving Jesus, are now cold and so dead many people no longer see a reason to attend. People who claim to be Christians often are cold and unfriendly and show no signs of having God in their lives. I don't want to be a part of a church like that. God give is revival!
(2) We need revival because of the complacency of God's people. I have never seen such a "don't care" attitude in our churches as we see today. It's difficult in many churches to get people to serve anymore, in any position. Over and over, the pastor or nominating committee hears the all too familiar words, "I had rather you get someone else. I don't think I can teach that class or serve on that committee." God's people are swiftly becoming too content in just filling a spot on the pew. We no longer want to "..be about our Father's business." Oh God, how we need revival in our churches. Lord, give us revival!
(3) We need revival in our day because of the closeness of Christ's coming. The Apostle Paul told Timothy of "perilous" times to look for in the last days, and he continued to give a long list of signs. Check that passage out in II Timothy 3:1 and following, and you'll find all of these signs are already present today. Jesus is coming soon! Theologians may debate and disagree on all the aspects of Christ's return, but One thing is for sure. Jesus is Coming soon! Oh God, send revival to our churches!
We as Christians need to pray for revival. God can, will, and desires to revive his people. Nothing is too hard for God!
